HHM Sponsors Niles McKinley Mock Trial Teams; Lawyer Matthew Ries Leads Them to Regionals

  • January 30, 2020

WARREN, Ohio – Each year Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell sponsors Niles McKinley High School’s mock trial teams to compete at the annual Ohio High School Mock Trial District Tournament hosted by the Trumbull County Bar Association.  HHM Attorney Matthew Ries serves as the teams’ legal adviser.  The competition gives students the opportunity to compete against other high schools in a real courtroom setting and argue in front of judges and lawyers who volunteer for the event.

Both teams from Niles won every round of the competition and will advance, for the second year in a row, to the Regional Tournament to be held in Akron on February 7, 2020.  Several students also won individual performance awards for Best Lawyer and Best Witness.

Ries has served as legal adviser at Niles McKinley for seven years and worked diligently to prepare his teams.

“I am proud of this group of students for their hard work, the time and effort they put into preparing for this competition and their strong performances in the competition,” said Ries. “I’ve been fortunate to see them strengthen their skills, as I’ve had some of them on the team for a couple years now.

“This is a great program and we’re glad to be able to give students this positive exposure in our community and support the future generation of lawyers.”
