HHM Lawyer Honored With Alumni Award from University of Akron School of Law

  • April 4, 2008

WARREN, Ohio – Matthew G. Vansuch, an attorney with the law firm of Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd., has been recognized by the University of Akron School of Law with its 2008 Alumni Publication Award.

Vansuch, a member of the school’s 2005 graduating class, was honored for his article titled “Icing the Judicial Hellholes: Congress’ Attempt to Put Out ‘Frivolous’ Lawsuits Burns a Hole in the Constitution.,” published in the Seton Hall Legislative Journal.

The article analyzed a tort reform bill before Congress that proposed to change the federal procedural rule governing attorney conduct in federal courts, and then apply the rule to proceedings in state courts. Such a move, Vansuch wrote, represented an attempt by Congress to exceed its constitutional power to legislate interstate commerce.

The Alumni Publication Award is presented by the law school’s board of trustees and is based on the recommendation of its nominating committee, which conducts an annual review of publications by alumni, according to Margaret Matejkovic, assistant dean for external programs.

“To be considered, the publication must be of a scholarly nature in a substantial area of the law,” Matejkovic said. “Mr. Vansuch’s honor is even more significant considering the fact that he is such a recent graduate of the school.”

The award will be presented at the 2008 Akron Law Alumni Awards and Class Reunion Dinner, scheduled for April 24 at the university’s Student Union Ballroom.

Harrington, Hoppe & Mitchell Ltd. is the area’s largest law firm, with nearly 30 attorneys at offices in Youngstown, Warren and Salem. The firm provides legal solutions to corporations, other businesses, non-profit organizations, government agencies and individuals.
